Slavery in America.
Slavery began in America when 20 slaves were brought in from Africa by the Dutch in 1619 to Jamestown, Virginia which was a North-American colony. They were brought in to aid the production of tobacco and from then on it was practised throughout the 17th and 18th century and the slaves helped build the economic foundation of the young nation. When cotton gin was invented in 1793 it really solidified the importance of slavery and thought it is impossible to say, historians estimate that 6-7 million slaves where imported from Africa in the 18th century alone.
